About Me
As a child, I loved watching tv and enjoying movies with my family but I had a weird feeling while watching them. For years I ignored the feeling, chucking it up to fear or anxiety and it was not until I was a few years into my undergraduate career when I realized what I was feeling. I was feeling effects of not being represented in history books, in movies and tv shows and in novels. I remember having to mentally change the description of characters in every book I read for leisure. I remember being excited to watch the superhero shows and waiting for scenes of Black superheroes that never came. And the rare times when I came across a “black” book or tv show, it never seemed to represent me or the people around me. It saddens and angers me to this day. So ever since I figured out that most media was deliberately designed to exclude Black people and make them stereotypes, I began to search for media I thought was safe for us. I believe Black people deserve to be safe in and outside of fiction and fantasy. So every movie, tv show or book I experience and deem worthy enough for the Black populace, I share and review on my blog.
I love analyzing and discussing sports as much as I love analyzing and discussing films. Women’s professional basketball and American football have my heart.
